Special Exhibition "Mountain Worship and Mount Koya"

Kobo Daishi Kukai underwent rigorous mountain training at Mount Otaki in Awa, Cape Muroto in Tosa, and Mount Kinpu in Yamato, and based on these experiences, founded Mount Koya as a training center for Esoteric Shingon Buddhism. There is a legend that when Kobo Daishi entered Mount Koya, he was guided by a hunter (Kariba Myojin) and a local deity called Nyu Myojin, and these deities have also been devoutly worshipped at Mount Koya.
This exhibition aims to focus on Mount Koya, a sacred place of mountain worship where gods and Buddhas reside, including its relationship with the surrounding mountainous areas such as Amano at the foot of the mountain, where Nyu Myojin is enshrined, and Katsuragi and Omine.
