Regular Exhibition "Art of Esoteric Buddhism" -Focusing on Mandalas-

One of the representative works of esoteric Buddhism art is the Ryōkai Mandala. The Ryōkai Mandala refers to the Kongōkai Mandala and the Taizōkai Mandala, which were created in India at different times and have different main scriptures. These were combined in Chinese esoteric Buddhism and theoretically systematized by Kōbō Daishi Kukai. It is said that the mandalas in esoteric Buddhism express the worldview, truth, and doctrine of esoteric Buddhism by using the figures of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, because it is not easy to convey to people the profound teachings preached in the scriptures. This regular exhibition focuses on the Ryōkai Mandala paintings and aims to introduce some of the relationships between the deities depicted there and the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who have been worshipped individually.
