Shochiin was founded by Shochibo Kyokaku during the Ten'ei era (1110-1113), and has continued to preserve the light of the Dharma as one of the leading academic temples in Mount Koya, having produced the scholarly monk Dohan, who is considered one of the "Eight Great Men of Koya" during the Kamakura period.
The 2017 summer exhibition will display many of the treasures handed down at Shochi-in and its associated temples, including items not yet housed at the Reihokan Museum. We hope that visitors will be able to get a glimpse of the 1200-year history of Mount Koya, which is made up of many sub-temples, through the history and traditions contained within a single temple.
