Since ancient times, people have lived in contact with various animals. In the world of faith, animals are revered for their abilities that humans do not have, and are deified or buddhized, given roles such as messengers or vehicles of gods and Buddhas. Their diverse forms can also be seen in a variety of situations as decorative designs. This exhibition will introduce familiar animals found in the world of Buddhism and esoteric Buddhism, animals that do not exist in Japan, and imaginary animals through the treasures handed down at Mount Koya.
