List of exhibits in the 23rd Great Treasure House Exhibition "The Faith of Mount Koya and the Treasures of Its Sub-Temples"

About me
In 2001, we exhibited cultural assets related to the platform on which Kobo Daishi Kukai built temple buildings based on his esoteric Buddhist teachings when he founded Kongobu-ji Temple on Mount Koya, and the inner sanctuary where a huge number of memorial towers are enshrined, centering on the tomb of the great master, Oninjo.
This year, we will be exhibiting cultural assets from the sub-temples that have developed around the Danjo Garan.
These sub-temples were first established with the Chu-in temple at the center of Danjo, and then the residences of the monks were established to the north, south, east and west. These sub-temples continued to increase in number and spread out over the five valleys of Sai-in, Minami-dani, Senjyu-in, Odawara and Ojo-in.
The number of temples was 3 in the "Gokogijo Isanzu" (Picture of the Imperial Palace) from 1646 (the third year of the Shoho era) in the early Edo period, and it seems that the number was at its highest during this time. The sub-temples were also divided into three sects: Gakuryobo, Gyoninbo, and Seibo.
With the Meiji Restoration, these three schools were abolished and all schools were placed on an equal footing, and the number of schools has now dropped to just over 130. However, each school has its own origins and long history, and houses many excellent cultural assets and a vast amount of documentary material.
Among the exhibits, particularly noteworthy are the National Treasure "Amida Shoshu Raigo-zu" (Volunteer Hachiman Group) and the Important Cultural Property "Five Powerful Bodhisattvas" (Fujin-in), which have just been restored.
I believe it will be difficult to find another opportunity in the future for everyone to see such excellent cultural assets on display.
