The 26th Koyasan Great Treasure Exhibition "The World of Esoteric Buddhism Mandalas and Cosmos"

From July 16 to September 11, Reihokan will be holding the "Twenty-sixth Great Treasure House Exhibition: Esoteric Mandalas and the World of Cosmos". The image of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism as difficult to understand comes from the fact that its doctrines are composed of layered and complex connections. However, when you learn about the Esoteric Buddhism system through mandala drawings, you will be impressed by their logical structure and strict law-based forms, and the breadth of the Esoteric view of the universe will help you to have even more faith.
This Great Treasure House Exhibition will be divided into two parts and feature 50 items in total, including not only various mandalas, including the Important Cultural Property Ryōkai Mandala (Blood Mandala), donated by Taira no Kiyomori, but also widely respected cultural assets such as the Peacock Myōō statue and the Four Heavenly Kings Standing Statues by Kaikei, as well as 2 National Treasures, 30 Important Cultural Properties, and 1 Prefecturally Designated Item.
Additionally, the concurrent permanent exhibition "Art of Esoteric Buddhism" will feature newly designated Important Cultural Properties this year, such as the "Ablution Equipment" and "Standing Statue of Bishamonten with the Womb Buddha," as well as the recently completed repair of the "Seated Thousand-Armed Kannon Statue," which had been stored in the Juntei-do Hall and not been on public display until 1976. The origins and history of this sacred statue remain shrouded in mystery, and it is a masterpiece that is enough to give viewers a sense of the mysticism of Esoteric Shingon Buddhism and the history of Mount Koya.

A regular exhibition is also being held at the same time! In addition, new designations for 2005 Important Cultural Property: Kanjo Ritual Implements (Ryuko-in Temple), Standing Statue of Bishamonten (Buddha in the Womb)is currently on exhibit.
